March 9, 2009 - Pomo Canyon Hike
I was back over to the Sonoma coast today for a hike up Pomo Canyon at the mouth of the Russian river. I got an early start and a good workout on this 6.5 mile loop, plus about a mile of hike along the Kortum Trail at Shell Beach

Greetings family and friends
We launched this new site so as to have
a broader format that would enable us to
cover our other interests that didn't fit well
in Ramblezone.com
The name Porterfield Creek really has no
specific meaning other than that it's the
name of a small stream that starts in the hills on the west side of Cloverdale and eventually forms the back property boundary of the lot we live on. It flows year round and Steelhead Trout can sometimes be spotted spawning in the high water during the winter months.  Because it's part of the town and tied into our home, we decided to use it as the name of our web-site.

Porterfield Creek Open Space

Around town (Under Construction) is a page dedicated the the huge growth and changes taking place in and around Cloverdale, CA.  From the view of life long residents, a few of these changes are exciting.  However, many of the changes are sad, as we see a quite country town slowly becoming another overpopulated, hectic California city.
The Home and Yard section is where we can post pictures and updates on the landscaping and home improvement projects we are currently working on and have planned.
The Fitness section is where Sam maintains his work out log, and has links related to fitness and healthier living.
The newly created Cycling page gives Sam a place to post updates and photos of his road and mountain bike outings.
Sam's Alpine Journal (Being updated) lists climbing objectives and is a waypoint for trip reports and photo album links as well as a journal for climbing, mountaineering and peak bagging.
Check out the Fish Journal for notes and info on recent Salmon, Trout and Steelhead outings.
Duffle Bag links to our sojourn blog where we log outings that don't fall in any of the other categories.
The Photos link takes you to our albums at Smugmug.
The Guest book page is ... well, a guest book page. Please feel free to sign it and leave your comments if you wish.

September 19, 2009 - Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park Camp
Marcie, Wyatt and Sam shot up to Humbolt County for a long weekend at Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. We had been wanting to get up there all summer and we were finally able to mess our schedules (Wyatt took a Friday off from School).

We got in Several hikes, One at Gold Bluffs beach, got to watch several Elk and relax at Prairie Creek Campground.

Note: Camp fee's were $35.00 per night. Thanks Arnold!

October 20, 2009 - Iron Canyon Fishing
Matt M. and myself (Sam) took a quick run up to Iron Canyon Reservior for some Fall trout fishing. The big storm had passed and the weather and fishing were great.

We caught a few on flies from the Kayaks, which we used this trip to get around the lake, but most were with bait from shore.

The Pit River                       Fall Foliage along shore         Matt distracted by rolling
                                                                                     trout
